HLTAID011 – Provide first aid

Application and Relevance
This course applies to a wide range of settings where first aid emergencies may occur. It is relevant for people working in education, aged and community care, sport, outdoor recreation, travel and tourism, hospitality, industry enterprises as well as in home or other environments.

Duration
12 hours face-to-face classroom/workplace training and assessment OR 7 hours face-to-face classroom/workplace training and assessment with 4 hours online or workbook pre-work.

Course Content
This course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders until the arrival of medical or other assistance. Topics include:
Entry Requirements There are no prerequisite units. Participants will need the ability to meet the physical demands of providing first aid. Participants will also need oral communication skills to make an accurate verbal report to emergency services and workplace supervisor. Prior to the start of face-to-face practical training, there may be a short knowledge quiz to check language, literacy and numeracy skills, as required.

Assessment Methods Progressive assessment throughout the course, including demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions relating to underpinning knowledge. Note that the provision of CPR must be demonstrated on the floor.
Award Issued A nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to all successful participants

All Students will be enrolled with Healthguard First Aid, RTO 21156 which will be responsible for the quality of training and assessment provided and for the issuing of Statements of Attainment for the units of competency on its scope.

Training and assessment will be conducted by Rural and Remote First Aid under Healthguard First Aid responsibility and direction.
